Used lift equipment covers a variety of material handling products. It includes all types of used forklifts, pallet jacks, lift tables, pallet positioners, cranes and hoists, and more. They all serve a similar purpose of being able to lift heavy and/or bulky items, and transport them to another location within your facility.
A few questions to help you determine the most appropriate piece of lift equipment for your application are: How heavy/bulky is the product you are lifting? Is it forklift compatible? Do you need to transport your product vertically, horizontally, or both? How far are you transporting the product?
All types of lift equipment have varying capacities within those different types, so knowing the weight or bulk of your product is just the first step. If the product or products you are transporting are loaded onto pallets or are forklift compatible, pallet jacks or forklifts could be utilized. If it is an odd shaped item that is not forklift compatible, a bridge or gantry crane might be a better option.
The next question is in what direction do you have to move the product: vertically, horizontally, or both? Equipment like pallet jacks only move product horizontally, and lift tables, pallet positioners, and vertical lifts only move things vertically. If you require both functions, like storing loaded pallets into pallet racking, a forklift would probably be your best option.
For assembly lines and workstations, cranes can be used to lift small but heavy items around your working area or machine shop. Typically cranes are stationary when in use and mobile when not in use, so they can be transported and utilized at different workstations. American Surplus has various styles such as jib cranes, gantry cranes, and bridge cranes.
